JUST A DREAM b/w TURNING INTO WHAT YOU HATE (2024 Modern City Records MCR#19)

To coincide with the 40th Anniversary Special Edition of M.I.A.’s Murder in a Foreign Place, Modern City put together this special edition single with two songs that were recorded in 1984 after the Murder album and before1985’s Notes From the Underground. Turning Into What You Hate was recorded for O’s Half Skull EP, while Just A Dream was recorded for the Flipside Vinyl Fanzine Vol. 2. Both songs were recorded by Chaz (separately) at Casbah Studios in Fullerton, California, and became a staple of the band’s live set in 1984.

The single first appeared in several colors of vinyl with various vintage record sleeves as a bonus to the limited edition (500 copies) hand-screend version of the Murder LP. To coincide with the band’s first European tour in the fall of 2024, a limited set of 300 hand-screened covers in various colors featuring new artwork by the band’s longtime friend Bad Otis Link was created to sell at the merch table on the tour. Unsold copies will be available from the band at upcoming US shows, as well as from Darla in the US and Modern City Records in the EU.
